As with most of Key West, you don't have to walk very far to get here - one block across from Duval Street. One of the few stone buildings in Old Key west, glimpses of the very distinguished facade can be glimpsed from the pavement through the tropical trees and bushes in the front yard.

As with many of the larger Victorian properties in Key West, the house is an impressive testament to a wealthy period in the City's history. The porches that encircle the two floors of the house and the lush gardens initiate a(nother) bout of "Why don't we live somewhere warm? . . ." "We could live here . . . "

The inside of the house is interesting with period and antique furniture that belonged to Ernest Hemingway and his wife Pauline (number two of four?). What makes the visit, however, is the tour guide with their informative and humourous commentary. A life like Hemingway's is rich material for such a tour - there's nothing like stories of excessive drinking and salacious gossip to bring life to an old house. You may have to wait a few minutes but it's the difference between "It's an old house with old stuff in it" and "Aaaah . . . now that Hemingway guy really lived!"

Don't miss the writer's studio or the cats (you'll have a job to miss those) . . . and toy around with the idea of having an old bar urinal in your garden - it'll make a great story.

Today we will visit the Key West Art Museum what is located in the old Custom House.

We will visit also the beautiful and relaxing garden of the West Martello Tower down at Higg's Beach and admire all the flowers blooming in the yards.

Then, it's time to have a drink somewhere! You can choose what place you like better: The Green Parrot Bar, the "first and the last bar at A-1".... or....

The legendary Captain Tony's Bar where you can meet on certain days Captain Tony himself, an old charming man who had some drinks and talks together with Ernest Hemingway, back in the good old days.....

Or, maybe you'll prefer to sit under a palmtree to enjoy the last sunlights of an other intresting and happy day in paradise.

Five Things to do in Key West - Series 7

Today we will visit the historical harbor of Key West where all the sunset cruisers and many privat boats are anchored. The sculpture in the front shows a wrecker looking out to the water to see if there are some unsuspecting ships to loot.

Here is the AIDS-Memorial at Whitehead Pier remembering all those who have died from this illness.

It's Happy-Hour at Louie's Backyard!

At "Dog Beach" is the only place in Key West where you can take a swim with your four-legged friend.

And enjoy on the way back home all these beautiful homes, like this one on Southard Street.

A Visit to the Dry Tortugas - Series 6

Take a ride with this small airplane for visiting the Dry Tortugas Islands or catch the Ferry early in the morning.

This picture is the view from the top of Fort Jefferson and it gives me a feeling of eternity, peace and freedom: only blue water, clouds and horizon where ever your eyes are looking around.

After a very intresting guided tour in Fort Jefferson, take a walk on the walls all around the fort and enjoy nature, sunshine and the blue color of the water. You also will see many snorklers enjoying the crystal clear underwater scene.

It's just a perfect day out there - another part of paradise!

The Bounty

This is the original Bounty - sitting in the Gulf in front of Mallory Square - on that they filmed the movie "Pirates of the Carribean" with Jonny Depp. And of course this boat is a big tourist attraction every year.

Dies ist die original "Bounty" auf der sie den Film "Piraten der Karibik" mit Jonny Depp drehten. Sie sitzt jedes Jahr fuer eine kurze Zeit draussen im Golf gegenueber von Mallory Square, wo wir arbeiten. Und natuerlich ist sie eine grosse Turistenattraktion auch.

Sunset Sailboat is coming back

In this picture I have captured the last sunbeams at the Hilton harbor. The sunset sailboat is coming back to Key West slowly and enjoying the last pink lights of this terrific sunset. In the background you can see Sunset Key Island.

The End of the Rainbow....

This is the sign for the end of the "Highway #1" that starts up in Maine in the north and goes down the whole east coast of the United States ending with "Mile 0" at Whitehead Street in Key West. In between you will see a lot of wonderful landscapes to photograph or paint! One of my dreams is to drive Highway #1 from "Mile 0" in Key West to "Mile 0" in Maine, the so called, "End of the rainbow". Maybe one day I will do it....

Die Highway "A1" fuehrt die ganze Ostkueste Amerikas entlang, beginnend im Staate Maine ganz im Norden, bis hinunter zu uns nach Key West. Die Leute nennen den Punkt, wo die Strasse hier aufhoert "Das Ende des Regenbogens" und es steht eine Tafel dort mit dem Zeichen "Mile 0" - und oben in Maine findet man genau dasselbe. Es ist immer noch mein Traum, einmal diese ganze Highway A1 vom suedlichsten Punkt bis hinauf zum Ende am noerdlichsten Punkt zu fahren. Dazwischen gibt es sehr viele sehenswerte Landschaften und Kuestenszenen zu geniessen, zu photographieren oder zu malen! Wer weiss, vielleicht schaffe ich es doch noch eines Tages, meinen Traum zu verwirklichen....

Look up in the sky and see all the palms in the Florida clouds - this is a tropical view at Smathers Beach in a warm, Sunday evening sunset light. This is the picture of Florida that I always have in my mind.
